What began in 2013 as a single vision — born from my own intimate experience with hair loss and a relentless passion to restore confidence — has since evolved into something far greater than I ever imagined. What started as a small idea in the heart of a woman determined to make hair artistry more meaningful has transformed into a movement — one that’s carried us through more than a decade of innovation, resilience, and human connection.
Over the past 13 years, The Extensionist™ has become more than a salon name. It has been a story — a story of women reclaiming confidence, of stylists mastering their craft with purpose, and of a community bound by the shared belief that beauty is not vanity, but vitality. It’s been a collective of artistry and reinvention, built on late nights, bold ideas, and the quiet power of transformation that happens when someone finally sees themselves again in the mirror.
But as every story evolves, so too must the people within it. After years of shared creation, my business partner Leslie and I have decided to part ways and follow separate creative directions. This transition marks both an ending and a beginning — a moment of clarity that allows each of us to grow in ways that honor our own unique visions.
Leslie will continue to operate the Edmonton Downtown and Calgary salons under a new name and brand that reflects her future goals and creative focus. I wish her continued success as she carries forward her own chapter of this shared history.
Meanwhile, I — Megan Ledarney, founder and creator of The Extensionist™ — will be continuing this legacy in a new and deeply personal direction:

This new space, The Extensionist Collective, represents a return to roots — a return to intimacy, authenticity, and craftsmanship. It’s a boutique studio built for creative independence, where each transformation once again becomes personal. Here, artistry breathes freely. Every client experience is tailored, intentional, and rooted in the same integrity that defined The Extensionist from the very beginning.
Joining me on this next adventure are two of our long-time artists, Alyssa and Schae — names and faces that many of you already know and love. They’ve been an integral part of The Extensionist family for years, and together, we’re shaping a new kind of salon experience. Within The Collective, each artist operates independently, running their own business under one unifying philosophy: mastery, transparency, and the courage to evolve.
It’s important to note that The Extensionist Collective is not affiliated with the Downtown or Calgary salons. Leslie’s new brand will manage all gift cards, credits, and outstanding balances associated with those locations, as she retains ownership of the current corporation. Should you have questions about previous visits or remaining balances from those salons, please contact Leslie directly.
For those who’ve been with me since the very beginning — through every reinvention, every evolution, every leap of faith — I want to say thank you. Your loyalty and your belief in this dream have been the heartbeat behind everything I’ve built. Change is rarely comfortable, but it’s always necessary. It’s how beauty — and life — continue to grow.

I am so happy that I found The Extensionist. I had been using extensions that use bonds and not only were they ridiculously expensive, but it was clear that they were destroying what little hair I had left. Since coming to The Extensionist (for about 1.5 years), my hair is finally getting back into shape after the previous damage. Plus, it looks amazing! There are so many great things I can say about this place. Their staff is friendly and well-trained. If you cannot see your regular person, it's okay because any one of them can step in and do a fabulous job! They will color match your hair, trim it up to blend perfectly with the extensions, and even style it before you leave. I love that the hair is re-usable. I have replaced my extensions only once. I even had a hair piece made for those days when I'm in a hurry and still want to look my best. And for an added bonus, they are dog friendly and I always get to meet furry friends when I am there.

I’ve been a client of The Extensionist for about 3 years now. I’ve had thin hair my whole life, and have never loved my natural hair. My first introduction to The Extensionist was with their peekaboo package, which was a game changer for me! It’s the perfect amount of extensions for my hair. (Giving some extra fullness without going too crazy on length, and still looking totally natural). The once a month touch ups are a breeze. Super easy to maintain, and best of all, it hasn’t caused any damage or loss to my actual hair. While I love the peekaboo extensions (and still currently have them), the past few years I had been growing more self conscious about the hair thinning at the top of my head. About 6 weeks ago, I got one of the clip-in mini crown hair toppers. To say it’s been life changing is not an exaggeration! It takes me ten seconds to clip it on each morning, and every day I feel like I just had my hair done. The amount of “getting ready” time that it saves is huge, but you simply cannot put a price on the confidence it gives you. I can’t imagine being without the topper now. It’s an amazing feeling for the first time in your life to not have to worry about how your hair looks! The mini crown topper is super light and comfortable to wear. No one would ever know you are wearing it. (Every time I show someone they can’t believe how natural it looks). If you’ve been on the fence about getting a hair topper (like I was), this is your sign to book a consult!! You won’t regret it. I cannot recommend The Extensionist enough. Megan and her team do amazing, life changing work!

LATE POLICY
PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME. A 15 minute grace period will be honoured. Later than 15mins and your appointment will need to be rescheduled
CANCELLATION
24 hours notice is required to cancel your service. Within 24 hours, a cancellation fee of 50.00 will be applied to your next service.
REFUND POLICY
DEPOSITS AND SERVICES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. All final payments are due at the end of your appointment.
